Your mouth is not sterile

Your mouth is not meant to be devoid of bacteria. Like Goldilocks and the three bears you don't want too much or too little... just the right amount of bacteria. If your mouth is devoid of sufficient bacteria yeast infections (thrush) can occur. Oral mouth infections "may" be caused by the long term use of antibiotics that rid the mouth of sufficient quantities of bacterial.

Too much bacteria

The same can be said for too much bacteria in the mouth. Abnormally high levels of bacteria in your mouth can contribute to dental cavities as well as periodontal disease. In addition, there is growing evidence that overall health of individuals can be improved by good oral hygiene. Stroke and heart problems "may" be linked to high levels of bacterial in your mouth.

Mechanical and Chemical removal of bacteria

Mechanical removal of bacterial is the basis of home care. This would include brushing and flossing. Case Evaluation: C0smetic dentistry

The following case is one of the many cosmetic cases our Lone Tree dentists have addressed over the years. We use actual cases and not stock photographic files.

In the cosmetic dentistry case highlighted in this article there were many ways to address this situation and include but are not limited to:

Do nothing i.e. leave as is
Orthodontically move the teeth especially the central incisors over and replace the two front porcelain and metal crowns with all porcelain dental crowns
Use Invisalign to move the teeth and restore as mentioned above
Replace the front porcelain and metal crowns with all- porcelain dental crowns. This solution would solve the dark metal outline but the width of the two front teeth would be excessive.
Take the space between the two front teeth and add with to the "lateral incisors" making the front teeth... the central incisors appear to be narrower in width.
Utilize more that four (4) teeth to balance the spaces out (this was our choice)

As you can see in the photograph below there is a space between the two front teeth that was addressed with porcelain crowns many years ago. The cosmetic up -close look is less that ideal but was considered very acceptable for its time. What our Lone Tree cosmetic dentists decided to do was to widen the lateral incisors so filling in the space between the two front teeth would be more proportional. The space and color was extended over to the canine teeth to give a better blend.
